This summer I’ve been on a low, the dreams of Premiership football had died and tbh I’d tried to put at the back of my mind football in general.
Yes the Lionesses did great in reaching the semi final of the women’s World Cup but it wasn’t anything near ‘proper football’.
We heard Radz and Kinnear say it was going to be a “difficult summer” when it came to transfers to boost our squad but nobody could have guessed the squad who did so well would start to be taken apart so much and so quick.
Jack Clarke seemed to be the player that would be sacrificed to get in funds to get in fresh blood. With Helder Costa coming in from Wolves it seemed that Leeds were at least upping their game in the transfer market, the winger/striker ripped up the Championship when he was integral in the Midlands club getting promoted the season before last.
Clarke signed for Spurs but was loaned straight back to Leeds and Jack Harrison has come back for a second loan spell at the club after playing the majority of the games last season.
Ben White, a promising centre half joined from Brighton after playing at Peterborough last season. A couple of youngsters were also brought in from Spain.
On the other side of the coin, Malik Wilks was sold to Barnsley after a good loan spell at Donny, it seemed strange that he wasn’t at least given pre season to show what he had to offer. Diaz was also sold after doing so well in under 23 squad, Saiz has been told he’s no longer wanted and others have gone too.
The news that annoyed and dismayed me was that one of the players that was going to be sold is Pontus Jansson, a player that really got what it meant to pull on the white shirt. He was voted into the EFL team of the season and his stats were as good as any other centre half in the division, maybe better.
He had now on joined bloody Brentford FC for a measly 5 million quid. The reason is that he has fallen out with the Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa because he is seen as a ‘disruptive influence’ after the game with Aston Villa at Elland Road. Pontus has shown on many occasions that Leeds were the club he wanted to play for and was desperate to reach the Premiership with them.
It beggars belief that the hierarchy at the club have sold him for a song, when in the past they have rejected bids for him of around 10 million previously. To replace him would mean at least spending double the 5 million received. It would be interesting to hear the Swedes side of the story and not just the rumours leaked by somebody inside the club for the reason of tainting his departure.
On Sunday news leaked out that Kemar Roofe could also be leaving to Glasgow Rangers, it is a rumour but it does not help that not a single word has appeared from the club dismissing this as crap journalism.
If our top scorer last season is to go it would mean that without doubt a striker with a good Championship record is brought in to replace Roofe.
With all this going on we seem not to have a ‘pot to p#%s in’, Costa’s only a loan this season and the deal, although agreed with Wolves may have a get out clause for the player to get out if things go Pete Tongduring his loan spell at Leeds. He is a good signing but him and White are the only players who’ve come through the front door.
This is going to be our Centenary season and the fans have backed the club with their money so it’s the turn of Andrea Radrizzani and co to show the same ambition as it’s fans have already done. This cannot be another season when our season ends with mediocrity.
WE DESERVE FAR MORE!!
