By Keith InghamWith the season only two weeks away and the third reverse in the pre season schedule, 1-0 to those world beaters Walsall. I know it's very early days but I'm concerned the players Warnock left behind are very short of a team challenging for the top six, really have little or no sell on value and have very comfortable wages for the next couple of years.
The manager made it plain after the latest defeat somebody has to leave before the forth signing, the one he's been trying to get in for at least a couple of weeks can finally come through the door at Elland Road. I list a few who really need to go: Brown Pugh Varney (although he was ok when used as a substitute v Walsall) Norris Tonge. I reckon the players above must be on over £10,000 per week, which even with my basic knowledge of maths is over £500,000 per player, which is probably worth a couple of new players at least. If they don't move on it looks like that unless the board get some money in from 'another source', what we have we might have to 'make do with'. I put the blame squarely on Warnock as he brought in players for a quick fix that never materialised and on contracts that they didn't deserve. I'm hoping that some lower league teams do us a favour and take them off our hands, but I'm not holding my breath. On On On

I echo the points you've raised. I think the better quality players BrianMcD is, and will be (hopefully) bringing in are going to be nullified by the poor quality we already have. Even when incomings were slow to happen in the transfer window, I did hope we may get rid of a few more to perk up the transfer kitty. Those players, and i'm sure they know who they are, must be singing Warnock's praises about the contracts and wages they got. But, its still early days. Lets not get too despondent before the season starts

Totally agree, some fans are calling for GFH to spend, spend, spend but we all must realise the cost of maintaining the above list to which I would add Drury and Hall. Our best hope is to run their contracts down this season and push next year.

Totally agree, if we don't get rid of players we are simply wasting money on their wages, it's going to take Brian more than a year to get a promotion challenging team together

Good post, I agree. Of those you listed, Michael Tonge is the only one I would consider keeping and I wouldn't cry my eyes out if he left. I do worry that we won't be able to shift any of them though. If this was Championship Manager this would be when you start handing out 2 week fines to players to try and get rid of them.

If the wages to bring someone ells in is the Maine problem wouldn't it be easy to cut our losses and just realise the dead wood.

Not as simple as that I'm afraid they all have contracts which would cost us to pay up. In short most of the squad are crap and we are stuck with em until their contracts run out. We need to stick with BMc whatever happens

Neil Warnock certainly left a lot of poor, mediocre players behind, despite what he keeps saying in interviews. I cannot believe that inconsistent players such as Brown, Pugh, Norris, Varney and Pearce are all still getting into the Leeds first team in the pre-season friendlies. Over the last 12 months I have grown tired of listening to Leeds players talking a good game off the pitch and then freezing on the pitch, by looking totally out of their depth. The total lack of investment in the Leeds defence and wide midfield areas of the team, will cost the team promotion in the new season if three season-changing players are not signed in time to play in the remaining friendlies. Most of the pre-season friendlies have shown the same old bad habits and mistakes from last season and the friendlies have in my view been a total waste of time. Brian McDermott deserves better than this!

For me, the irony now is: Thank God GFH did not give Colin more money in january.

Why is everyone blaming Neil Warnock !!! he had no money, and McDermott has no money. Have we all forgotten the promised 10 million plus for players that GFH said would be available after the takeover, Warnock was conned, McDermott has been conned, until someone puts money into Leeds we are mid table and nothing is gonna change !!!

Next two weeks are vital for our season , forget the pre season , what we really need to know is who's coming in and who's going out
