So, we've had our first game of the season and what a game it was. Over 33,000 got to see the Mighty Whites pick up their first 3 points. It wouldn't be fair to judge the boys after only one game, but what are you thinking after this display?
Brian McDermott tells us he wants Elland Road to be a fortress again. This really does go without saying, but maybe this season really is the start of better things for Leeds United. Elland Road can be an extremely intimidating place to come to, but only if our fans show up! On Saturday, they sure did.
Did you watch/listen to a performance that you expected, prior to kick-off? Are you confident that this squad of players is good enough to gain promotion this season? Have we done enough in pre-season to strengthen the squad?
I feel optimistic that we can mount a serious challenge this season, I really do. Ok, so QPR, Reading and Wigan are favourites to go straight back up, but how many times have we seen that doesn't always happen. Indeed, on paper they should be challenging for promotion but the Championship is a different level of football, and just because it's a lower league, doesn't guarantee the higher quality teams are going to breeze through it. Besides, does a higher value squad make them a "higher quality team."
I believe in our group of players, and the management that we have at our club, we can achieve things. One thing I am most definitely certain about...
We have the greatest fans in the world, and that is what our lads need. We can make Elland Road the fortress it needs to be, and if we can do this and get those points on the board at home, we can definitely beat other teams in their back yard.
We've had our ups and downs... Now it's our time.
Marching On Together, don't just sing it... do it!
