With fans going crazy on Twitter after noticing that Luciano has returned home to Leeds, most people will ask the question why bother?
The simple answer to that absurd question is why the hell not?!
Becchio, akin to a certain Jermaine Beckford, is thought of by fans as a prodigal son. In this I mean that the forward was with us during our hard times and always played for the shirt. His unbridled passion for our beloved club has never stopped, he'll always be Leeds to me.
The fans who do think that the move would be a step in the wrong direction, there are valid points. Since leaving Leeds, Becchio has been plagued by injuries and long spells out of football, recently leaving his recent club Belgrano to focus on gaining back his fitness.
When Becchio comes to mind there should be one sentence that comes to your mind, he does a good job. This statement will stick the player much like it has with players like Dirk Kuyt and Ji-Sung Park. An explanation to the phrase is that even when he's not in with the goals, he can still be a player that can create chances and help his side keep the ball.
The positive aspects of signing a player of Becchio's ilk are simply phenomenal. When Becchio is in form, he's going to bring you goals by the pound. When he's not in form, he's going to bring you assists by the ton.
Although we do currently posses a player in that category with Chris Wood, the lessons that the current forwards could learn from the experience Luciano has in the game could really propel the club forward. We can all see that Wood is struggling to find his finishing boots and a man like Becchio can help the forward gain back his form.
The fact is, Becchio may be entering the end of his career but he has a lot of knowledge to give and the young lads in the academy could be the perfect people to take it in. As is with plenty of players once they have finished their career, Becchio can go on to become a fantastic coach and there's always the opportunity that he could eventually be our head coach, just imagine it!
The advantages for this current season are simple, even with Erwin back we have a lack of strikers to play a 4-4-2 formation and I do not believe that Evans is the man to give the young lads a chance.
We need someone that can come on with 15 minutes to go and take that final opportunity to bag us three points. Look at the Bolton match for one second, we needed a leader to come on and take the game by the scruff of the neck and Luciano could give us that.
He's also a fantastic person to have in your dressing room. He's passionate, he's strong willed and he knows what it means to love Leeds United.
Quite simply, to overlook a man like Becchio is a sin. Not just in footballing terms but as representatives of this club. We need Becchio, it's that simple. So If there's anyone at the club still that has any common sense just go out there and bring back my Becchio!
