Since the announcement back in November that GFH were about to complete the longest takeover on record, I said to myself that it didn't matter because come January, when the transfer window opened it would be worth the wait because the players we need to challenge the top six would start arriving... I'm still waiting!
I know these things can take a while but since the 21st of December, the manager has had the opportunity to either speak to other mangers or players agents. The best he's come up with so far is a extended deal to keep a player (Tate) who has looked out of sorts recently after starting his Leeds career so confidently.
We missed out on Woods from WBA because we couldn't compete wage wise with Leicester and are currently in talks with Michael Tonge. It's early days I hear you say but other clubs were 'on the ball' alot earlier than us, even League 2 teams are getting players in. I and a few like me feel the club needs a lift, something a new player can bring and sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate.
The new owners seem to talk a good game and have been seen locally 'pressing the flesh' but fans want to see something to persuade the thousands staying away from Leeds 11 to come back. I cannot
understand a manager with the contacts he must have acquired over his many years of football management has so far failed to line up a player who could do this.
In this age where loyalty to a club is not rewarded, indeed for the latest game at Elland Road ticket prices were some of the highest charged in the 3rd round. At Manchester City it was £15 and for the replay next Tuesday Birmingham are to do the same. Common sense pricing if you want to get people into your ground.
I can't see us returning to the days when hardly a day went by without Leeds being linked to a player worth millions, but it would be great to be mentioned when players of quality are available. I might get some 'stick' but at least with Ken in charge you knew exactly what would happen at this time of the season - bugger all, lets pray that the new holders of the reins show the people who support this club they mean business not just talk it.
