The announcement of Vurnon Anita prior to the official kit launch may have been a surprise, but it was a revelation when it comes to Leeds' transfer dealings.
The former Ajax midfielder signed a three year deal and will join Pontus Jansson, Hadi Sacko, Madger Gomes, Felix Wiedwald and Mateusz Klich as new signings for the 17/18 Championship season.
The aforementioned revelation that stands out is the fact that Leeds are clearly making a big stamp in this summers transfer market. Not only have the club already spend an astounding £7million on players before the start of July, they are not just focussing on foreign imports to add to the squad.
Anita is a very experienced player not only in Europe during his time at Ajax but has also spent four seasons in the Premier League as a first team player for Newcastle United, along with a promotion winning Championship season last season.
The 28-year old is an adapt central midfielder but is extremely versatile and has occupied the right back position for Newcastle over the past few seasons, a position where Leeds were looking extremely light.
Leeds only had Luke Ayling to occupy the right back position having loaned out youngster Lewie Coyle to Fleetwood only days before. With Gaetano Berardi set to continue at left back.
The Yorkshire club now look to have strength in depth in defence providing they sign another centre back and a somewhat light squad now looks set to have a major upgrade.
With Leeds now looking to conclude deals for Alioski, Saiz along with teammate Alexander Gonzalez and Chievo striker Caleb Ekubian the transfer spend is set to reach double figures.
It looks like Victor Orta and co are not holding any reservations in signing players, but the difference is the class is phenomenal.
There's not one player who doesn't look like a great signing and with the deal for Anita completed, Leeds have grabbed a bargain. Anita would be commanding a fee of over £5million had his contract not expired.
Overall, Leeds look forward to a new season under Thomas Christiansen with a stronger squad, our home back and a stable owner.
