By Russ Vernon![]() Brian McDermott is set to be announced as the new Leeds United manager in the next 24 hours. 52-year-old McDermott has been among the bookies favourites for the vacant Whites hot seat ever since Neil Warnock was sacked at the beginning of April. McDermott guided Reading to Premier League promotion with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest after a superb run of 15 wins in 17 games in April 2012. McDermott was sacked by the Royals on 11 March 2013 following a run of four successive league defeats. No official confirmation from Leeds United yet, but McDermott’s credentials have made him the most obvious choice all along – he’s a man who can work to an incredibly tight budget with experience of winning the Championship. Let's not get carried away. McDermott has got two and a half years experience of managing in the Championship and half a season in the Premiership. At 52 he is not that young. He has got one promotion on his CV but both of Leeds' previous managers had got promotions on their CV. If he had stayed at Reading he would have presided over a relegation. He may be the best manager that Leeds can get in the present situation but he isn't a Paul Lambert. I would have preferred a young manager in the Dougie Freedman mould.

Let us hope that this is now being resolved and we can move forward. I am not 100% about this decision but that is nothing at all against Brian McDermott as he appears to be 100% a gent and has never brought the name of his former club Reading into the media in a negative light which would be a change for us at Elland Rd after the recent run of managers. He also appears to want his teams to play football on the ground and not just kick your opposition to death and lump the ball as far forward as you can. As I said not 100% sure but also more than willing to give the guy a real good chance and lets hope if sways those of us who are undecided albeit in a positive way. So let's all get behind the guy and give him and the team our total support and get us back to the place where we should be.
