Leeds United finished 2-1 winners on the night, but Chesterfield certainly gave us a run for our money, playing some good football. However we managed to come from behind with great goals from Michael Brown and Dom Poleon to secure a place in the next round of the Capital One Cup. Here's my rating's for the game.
Paddy Kenny - Had a good game, was alert and pulled off some great saves, never really looked overly troubled. 7
Zac Thompson - Didn't have a bad game, was good going forward and knocked a fair few crosses in... Didn't look as comfortable defending, though he did seem to grow into the game as it went on. 6
Tom Lees - Had another solid game, dealt with everything that came his way. 7
Jason Pearce - Had a good game, no nonsense and threw himself into everything, making a few important clearances. 7
Adam Drury - Looked a bit off the pace at times, but worked hard and had a reasonable game. 6
Paul Green - I'm a fan of Green, but was a little disappointed with the captain of the night. He worked hard as always, but misplaced a lot of passes and was chasing the game quite a lot. 6
Michael Brown - To be fare to him, Brown had a great game.. Put himself about and scored a fantastic goal to equalise. 8
David Norris - Was disappointing, ran around a lot without really contributing, won't have done his first team chances much good. 5
Aidy White - Had an awful game, was outplayed and out muscled by the opposition, misplaced most passes and the few chances he had on goal he threw away. 5
Matt Smith - Didn't really get into the game and struggled to make much of an impact, looked clumsy on the ball. 5
Dom Poleon - Had a great game, was full of pace, tricks and skill and scored the winning goal. Every time he had the ball he looked dangerous. 8
Ross McCormack - Came on for White on the hour and as ever gave his all for Leeds, chased every ball and looked creative going forward. 7
Luke Murphy - Came on in the 60th minute for Norris and settled into the game, showing glimpses of quality again. Worked hard, got stuck in and was unlucky not to add to his debut goal with a great attempt. 7
It wasn't the best football we have played and we allowed them too much time on the ball at times, but a win is a win and there are some positives to take from some performances. Two wins from two games s so far this season, couldn't ask anymore than that. Hopefully McDermott can now bring in a few extra players now he has received the green light from Salah Nooruddin. BMac's post match interview brought more good news when he rubbished reports of McCormack leaving.
Next up is Leicester away on Sunday, never an easy game. If we play like we did against Brighton though, I can't see why we won't come back with 3 points. Bring it on.
