Leeds United are edging close to a deal for versatile star Steven Zuber.

According to TBR Football, the deal could be a goer as both Bild and Phil Hay confirm the Championship leaders interest in the player.

Leeds are not expected to make many moves in the market with both Managing Director Angus Kinnear and Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa confirming improvements to the squad will only come with the right player.

A move for Zuber does seem to cover that ideology with the Swiss utility man coming with a very impressive CV.

The 27-year old currently plays for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim but has limited to a rotational option this season making only nine appearances.

Joining in 2014 from CSKA Moscow, the midfielder has made 99 appearances scoring 8 goals and 8 assists. Zuber has also made an impressive 11 appearances in the Champions League for the Russian side prior to the Bundesliga move.

Usually deployed on either wing, Zuber can also be deployed as a full back or as an attacking midfielder with success. The Swiss international has been a utility player for his national side, making 20 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

The one stumbling block is the fee expected to prize Zuber away from the German League with a potential £5-7million investment expected to be the few for his services.

With Leeds being extremely frugal in the transfer market, a loan with a view to a permanent deal may be the only option to secure Zuber.

Do you think Zuber would be a good signing or would you prefer a move for a more established Championship player? Have your say in the comments below.

I’ve been saying for some time that we need 3-4 quality, experienced players in key positions. This guy seems to fit the bill for two of them

the owner needs to take a risk. the rewards in getting to premier league are rich. you need to take these decisions but I believe the owner is to cautious and making these decisions is not for the faint hearted.

He's not coming. Already reported in Germany he's not interested in us as we're in the Championship. Think he's being watched for next season ;)

Leeds don't do transfer windows so I'd forget this one and any other links to players, we have a tight arses chairman who wants to get promoted on the chrap

Leeds are in a great position, but I just feel that Derby will stuff them on Friday and it will be the start of the decline. Leeds will be fighting for the last play off spot come the end of the season. The defence is poor, they play from the back without the quality to do this, they need to change there tactics this year now as teams know they are weak at the back and to counter, firing from every angle, any distance. I do hope this is the year Leeds go up!!

We really need more stability at the back.We are ok going forward, but could do with a proven goal scorer,we should not have let Sharpe go. But our defence is very poor,if we did manage to get promoted,we would leak a lot of goals, unless the owner is prepared to spend.
