By Farai Diza![]() Events happening at Elland Road over the past few weeks have been nothing but sweet news to all the loyal Leeds fans who had endure horrifying off season spells over the past couple of years. Under the school boy bullying tactics of former chairman Ken Bates, loan transfers were all with rarely any money exchanging hands. Enter 2013 - GFH has installed some pride and prestige back onto the Leeds United emblem with three new names coming on board. In this last week nothing has happened but the gaffer, Brian McDermott, is rumoured to be after one player in particular who he thinks will be really important and I would think that must be a centre-half. Brian will be looking for a centre- back and I think he needs one. He was more or less saying that at the end of last season. I'm pretty certain it's the worst kept secret in football that Brian is referring to Matt Mills coming to Leeds. The only question is why it hasn't happened yet. My guess is that either GFH are working to get the funds in or we just need to ship out a couple of high earners (Norris, Tonge etc) before it can happen - same as with the Murphy situation. Brian seems calm about it which suggests he knows it will happen, it's just a case of a chain reaction prompted by someone leaving. Mills will have been spoken to about the situation and is just waiting. I'd also guess that Dougie Freedman's comments (about there being no approach from Leeds) were designed to both kick Leeds into action while also alerting any other clubs that fancy him. There's been mixed reactions about Mills but I think he's exactly what we need and definitely fits in with Brians ethos (talented, young, hungry). He was a £5m player less than 3 years ago and wants to prove why. A season with us and he'll be worth more than that again. He's quick, strong and reads the game very well. On a separate note what's happened to Matthew Upson? Is he still available on a free? He'd be another terrific signing for us.

Matthew Upson has signed for Brighton. Personally I'd prefer somebody younger and less injury prone. Are you listening Matt Mills ;-)

I think ( hope ) you're right , Matt mills is what we need ,,, with him at centre half Leeds will have a very good defence , add a good pacey winger and we will be in business the season , all in all things are looking good MOT

the reason why he was a 5m player and not now is not because of his skill, its that he gets injuries which keep him out of the game, i do like the player but if we are spending alot of money on him, maybe a high fee or high wages with a season loan, i would prefer to use the money on a fitter player who will play more then 15 games in a season

Matt Mills, Craig Dawson ... A.N.Other of the manager's choosing. Any of the three will do and we should hope that BMCD knows what he's doing

Welcome aboard Farai, good 1st article. Def need a centre back and a winger and squad will be strong enough to compete at this level. What about Richard done on a pay as u play contract, experienced international and would compliment Lees.

Not sure about Matt Mills, if we are going to spend I would be more inclined to go with Dawson at WBA, he will offer a greater re sale value, better than purchasing Peltier or Pearce, players we paid through the nose to sign with no realistic chance of obtaining anywhere what we paid for them and will be difficult to shift off the wage bill.

Do none of you follow football or read the news? Upson signed for B.H.Albion and Richard Dunne signed for Q.P.R yesterday, in BMAC we trust - MOT

sure we need good centrehalf but the most important position that we leeds utd need is an experaince midfielder and please we need to get rid of varney as soon as possible. so if we got just a little bit of money its better if we get that experience midfielder or else its going to be another mid table season for us

To Thomas clinch . Are you sure we need an experienced midfielder , either you very witty or very daft, no offense lad, but tonge, Norris , brown , green , Pugh and could include diouf and even varney and mccormack, there's enough there for a the queen to be getting the telegrams ready, think we need bit more pace and creativity in the team not experience
