Tell us a bit about yourself:
I live in Denmark, so I support Leeds from a distance, the commitment is massive though, highs and lows and ruined or wonderful weekends all because of our club. I try to get over when I can, my first trip was when we were in league one and I’ve been over three times so far, managing to see us lose both 4-6 & 0-5 so maybe I should stay away actually.
How long have you supported Leeds?
I’ve been a Leeds fan since 94, before then I just liked football but never really supported a team outside Denmark, my dad tried to make me a scummer, so what was more obvious then to pick their arch rivals?
What is your favourite memory?
There’s been a few over the years, my first trip over was great, met up with the players, and just the whole feeling of a city united in match day was really something else. The win over Man U in 2010 was also special because I watched the game with my dad, he was very quiet for a few hours after the game. The following promotion was also really nice, though a long time coming.
Favourite player past and present?
My favourite player today is Luciano Becchio, he’s loyal, hard working and scores quite a few goals, the term“legend” is really overused, maybe because we haven’t had to many in recent season, but for me Becchio is the only player since the 91/92 team who deserves to be called legend.
Like every Leeds fan I like Eddie Gray & Bremner but I’d rather mention players I’ve actually seen play so I’ll go with Tony Yeboah & Lee Bowyer. Yeboah scored some insane goals in my first time as a Leeds fan so I remember that quite fondly, like everyone else I’ve forgotten that he was pretty awful in his last games. Lee Bowyer for me was a tough tackling, hard working and goal scoring midfielder, everything we need today actually, he was also the first player to ever get printed on one of my Leeds shirts.
If you could bring one player from any era back to the club, who would it be and why?
Well I’ve read previous interviews and everybody seems to bring back Billy or some striker so I’ll go somewhere else and choose to bring back Tony Dorigo, we’ve struggled for the better part of 20 years on that left back and Tony was a real team player with great talent up field to so that will be my, maybe strange choice.
Best goal scored by a Leeds player?
That would have to be Frank Strandli, not... Best Leeds goal ever is shared between two players for me, one is Eddie Gray’s super goal against Burnley where he took on half their team and the other is Robert Snodgrass 1-1 goal against Brighton in February 2010, only because it was my first live goal at ER.
How would you sum up our season so far?
The season has gone as one could have expected. The transfer window in the summer went better than it has in recent years, but we lack creativity and that has shone through during our games, we play a weird sort of old school kick and rush which suits our midfield but not the rest of the team – I’d have liked to see us get Jerome Thomas in in the summer, that could have changed something I think.
Which player has impressed you most this season?
I’ve been really impressed with Sam Byram, no one could have seen this coming, to keep a 800K player and captain out of what people say is his best position is really impressive, and in my opinion Sam Byram has actually made Peltier expendable. Besides Byram I’ve been impressed with David Norris after his injury he’s been one of our top players, and I think there’s more to come from him.
Which player have you been least impressed with?
Well it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Lee Peltier, I don’t care that he “plays out of position” he needs to be dropped and stripped of the armband asap! I’ve been a little disappointed by Paddy Kenny too actually, I think he makes too many mistakes and it’s really time we get some stability back in between the sticks.
How would you describe our current team?
NW has gathered a team of fighters, we do lack the before mentioned creativity though, but the window is coming soon so let’s hope something happens there. The team has performed ok and to be this close to the play offs in December was a good as we could hope for I think.
What do you think of our two latest additions Alan Tate and Jerome Thomas?
I’ve been really impressed, Tate seems like a leader, I’m a really big fan of both Lees & Pearce, but its obvious that Tate has got that extra bit of experience that can make a difference this season. I’m a big fan of Thomas, he’s a game changer, he’s got speed and the ability to cause any defender in this league problems so I’d like to see us sign them both up in January.
Who would you like to see us sign in January?
Apart from our two loanee’s I’d like to see Tonge join up as well, he’s been really impressive, I’m quite sad SG didn’t sign him instead of Danny Pugh when he was going through the Stoke City reserve team. The recent stories of Max Gradel wanting a move back has been fun to read too, I don’t really believe them but I’d love Maxi back though, him on one wing and Thomas on the other = promotion party! I’d also like to see us add a LB and a new striker, one that can bag 20-25 goals, Billy Sharp or Beckford springs to mind.
Where do you think we will finish this season?
A lot depends on how much money there is for transfers in January. GFH have not really told us how much they’ve made available for NW. We need 3-5 good lower premier league class players to get promoted, if we don’t get that I can see us just getting in the top 10, and then we’ll settle for the “there’s always next year” cliche.
What is your view on Neil Warnock’s time at Leeds so far?
It’s been hard for Neil, I’m pretty sure he was promised more then he got by Ken Bates. However NW has still been a bit disappointing, he managed to make his own team in the summer and we have still had some horrific results 1-6 to Watford among the worst. He’s however very proven at this level and with some £’s in his pocket in January I think he can give us the much wanted promotion and retire in the summer – question is though, will GFH give a guy who might retire £10M to buy players?
Which game are you most looking forward to this season?
One of the big rivalries I have is our games against Burnley, due to a mate being a Burnley fan, so I look forward to those, the Wednesday games are also some I like a lot due to us playing them a lot in my first years as a fan.
Score prediction for the Ipswich and Chelsea games?
I can see us beating Ipswich 2-1. The Chelsea game is a lot harder, but I guess Bradford proved last night that anything can happen so 2-2 and Leeds on pens!
What team would you put out on Saturday?
Ashdown, Byram, Lees, Tate, Drury, Green, Tonge, Norris (C), Thomas, McCormack & Becchio.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’d like to thank all the people reading this and my pieces on both weallloveleeds and my blog, I’m really happy to have met so many other Leeds fans both on here and on twitter, it’s awesome to know other people who share the same passion as yourself, even though we sometimes argue and disagree we’re all marching on together!
