Leeds United look set to begin the genesis of their summer clear-out with one player already heading for the exit.
Last night the YEP’s Phil Hay reported that Pawel Cibicki was spotted at the Legia Warsaw game along with his agent.
The forward has not on the team sheet since the clubs away defeat to Fulham and looks set to be the first name on the list when the club looks to move on the deadwood from a bloated squad lacking real quality.
Cibicki was a summer signing from Malmo in a deal that came from the exit of Chris Wood to Burnley. The idea was that the combined signings of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Jay Roy Grot and Cibicki would replace the 30 goals scored by Chris Wood the season before. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case.
Cibicki joined with a lot of promise, having been chased by Manchester United, Torino and several La Liga sides and commanded a small fee in £1.5million.
The 24-year old has only made seven League appearances and only has two assists to his name. One which was a beautiful cross against QPR, which looked to set him up for a future at Elland Road.
It is unknown whether Leeds will look to recoup the monies spent on the forward or allow Cibicki to prove himself for a season on loan prior to any decisions on his Leeds future.
A potential loan switch to Legia could see Leeds have the opportunity to evaluate whether Cibicki can make the grade akin to the move they made with Marcus Antonsson going to Blackburn last summer.
Contracted until 2021, there’s still time for Cibicki to show his worth to the club, something we’d all like to see instead of another dud who we’ve wasted money on.
Although Cibicki may not feature for his country, why not take a Free Bet on his compatriots by clicking the link.
