Eric Lichaj: Sign him up Brian!

Reports came out today that Aston Villa have decided to release former Leeds loanee Eric Lichaj when his contract expires next month. I remember Lichaj fondly from his time at Elland Road and would like to see him join the club in the summer.

Not only is he a good RB, he also has a killer last name, that's gotta count for something to right? He's also played quite a lot of Premier League games for Aston Villa since his Leeds days, so I think that us signing up Lichaj would show a bit of ambition - Whether Sam Byram leaves or not I still think Lichaj will be an important player at ER. Sam can be pushed forward, or maybe we could even allow the 19 year old a few rests during the season, luxury!

So Brian, get on the phone to Eric's agent and sign him up.

Would have him back in a flash, he was class for us and would enable Byram to play higher up..

He would be a CRACKING Signing if we can afford him now!
Was superb on loan at Leeds and has had a lot more quality experience since leaving.
With Lichaj at right back and Sam in front of him we'd have strength and width as well as SPEED - and for next season we wouldn't spend the season saying "We miss Snoddie down the right!".

I hope we make a quick move for him.

Villa fan here, I come in peace!

I am astonished we are letting Lichaj go. While he is 2nd choice behind our best defender (Mat Lowton) for right back he can play across the back line, good attitude and works hard. Perfect squad player for us, really surprised it looks like he is going, guess it is the injuries setting him back. If he comes to you I hope he fulfiills his potential and sure he won't let you down

It depends whether the Boss thinks Byram is suited to midfeild. Theres no point signing Licaj and potentially messing two good players around if Byram usnt suited to a role in midfeild

Guys remember Lubo was on loan looked great we subsequently signed him and he was useless. We already have Pelts as cover for Sam and as it looks like we are in the market for a new CB that probably means BMac doesn't fancy Pelts in the centre..............of course if we are selling Sam!

SidCowansLoveChild:

Villa fan also..I not shocked we let Lichaj go at all..He hasn't reached his potential and is never in a million years a premier league standard player. What are his strengths? He's not quick, he's not particularly good defensively, or at crossing. Leeds is about right for him. Championship player at best.

Leeds are about right for him? Once benteke leaves you will be in the championship yourself! No one cares about your opinion to be honest, why don't you go and post on a villa blog, daft brummie!

LufcForever, surely the idea of some of these blogs IS to discuss with other fans opinions about players etc? This is only my opinion, BUT I think Lichaj is a decent Premiership SQUAD player off the bench. He is ok to fill in for the odd few games, but not the answer if you want to try and push toward the top six, which despite our struggles last season will be Villa's aim (and Benteke WILL stay!). Eric will be excellent in the Championship and MAY well with more regular football develop into a better player. I think a move to LUFC would be good for all parties

Whites has no RB problem so this news hint is a bit far fetched. RW problem we have but McD is working on it. Whether Sam would be in LW wing yes he could do that but MF and ATT are the areas we must get some changes.

McD hasn't seen ELs contribution for the Whites so I take this one with a pinch of salt.

Oh yes you bunch of idiotic morons lets sign him up, vast Pl experience and from a team that like us concedes goals for fun and were lucky to stay up, yet another Pl cast off who is a below average player we need to strenghten not weaken and a RB is something we don't exactly need with three players able to play in the role already, yes lets sign him and see our defence score more goals, it is CBs that we need Pearce is too liable to get sent off and give penalty away and lees is too weak better as a RB with Byram on RW pushing forward.

Deffo sign him. Decent player and a good age. Byram Is probably more suited to playing on the wing as he cant really defend.

Please sign him BM

Why do fans have to be so insulting to each other. There should be no problem with Villa fans commenting on this site if it is useful information and opinion, which it is! I think that we should start thinking with our heads and not our dicks when it comes to discussing issues of relevance. Lichaj in. He would strengthen the side.

If Lijchaj comes on a free and we can afford his wages, it may be that pelts will be sold to free up money for Mills.Would prefer a cash plus peltier deal for Trippier but thats never going to happen.
