The decision to postpone Tuesday’s game was made in conjunction with UEFA and follows confirmation that players from Real Madrid will self-isolate for fifteen days, after it emerged that a player from the club’s basketball team tested positive for COVID-19.

The EFL announced on Friday morning that due to the ongoing global health crisis with the coronavirus outbreak games in the Championship, League One and Two have been suspended until April 3 at the earliest.
A statement read: "The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest.
“This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of Clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus. The postponements include all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, as well as all Academy and youth team fixtures."
The three matches Leeds matches cancelled during this period are Cardiff City away(March 15th), Fulham(March 18)and Luton(March 21st)at Elland Road. The club has announced that tickets purchased for these games will be valid if and when they are played at a later date. Leeds’ next scheduled fixture is April the 3rd, away to Blackburn Rovers.
Also cancelled is the 2020 London Marathon which was scheduled to take place on October the 4th, the Bahrain and Vietnam Grand Prix, all Scottish football matches indefinitely, and England versus Sri Lanka test series in Sri Lanka. Many more events are expected to be either played behind closed doors or cancelled.
A good, sensible decision by football’s authorities(for a change!) and much better than the previous suggestion of playing the games behind closed doors. It has to be seen as positive and the hope is that in April football will resume with the season lengthened to play the games cancelled.
UEFA will most likely have to move the Euro Championships this year to 2021 and let the season extend into the month of June and maybe even July which will mean a very short break for players this summer.
Something had to be done to protect fans and players and in the circumstances this in my opinion was the best option.
It means we will just have to wait another couple of months to celebrate Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League, at least the weather will be better!
I would like to dedicate this diary to my Auntie Kathleen and my Dad. Both who gave me encouragement to follow my dreams.
