Huddersfield Town 0 Leeds United 2 - Whites battle to Yorkshire derby spoils with sixth consecutive victory | Yorkshire Evening Post
Thanks to the YEP
Gjanni and Pablo celebrate.
Marcelo Bielsa: "We defended set-pieces badly, but our first goal made it easier to develop the play. In the first half we should have created more chances, but we had opportunities and couldn't end them very well. We struggled with our last pass when we arrived in good positions, but it's good to have chances rather than not.
"The second half was different, but we had problems in both halves with set-pieces."
Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley: “We tried to hurt them in the spaces behind and I thought we showed good penetration at times - but we weren't able to get good value for chances, which we needed to.
"It's been a learning curve in football because Marcelo Bielsa is a pioneer in football.
David Watkins on how ‘nerves’ were dispelled and the ‘joy of six’
Thank you David. Unbeaten since October is pretty impressive.
West Brom beat Swansea 5-1 at The Hawthorns to go top of the Championship.
Pretty positive remarks from fans on social media with Harrison, Alioski(his celebration!), Klich, Casilla and Ben White getting mentioned. Most agree Leeds struggled in the first half but dominated the second period and that Kiko’s two superb saves were vital. Positive ‘purring’ on the Leeds second goal, pure ‘Bielsa ball’ by United.
Patrick Bamford’s art of getting in the oppositions face and generally being a nuisance was also mentioned by The Squareball after match podcast. His ‘shithousery’ their words was met with obviously approval by the three podcasters.
Heidi Haigh remembers ‘King Billy’ on the day he passed away over twenty years ago and very proud her stone is near the statue of great Leeds captain/manager in Bremner Square also her superb blog of the game at Huddersfield.
Thank you Heidi. Fantastic as usual.
Kiko Casilla selected in the skybet EFL Team of the week
What Marcelo said ... pre Hull City.
Team News: Liam Cooper will miss Tuesday night's home game against Hull City. Kalvin Phillips returns from his one game suspension.
Patrick Bamford on the reception he gets from opposition fans, how his lean spell made him stronger and Bielsa: "They've been giving me a bit of grief lately, and if you're going to give it, you've got to be able to take it. It spurs me on, and if the away fans are booing you, then you must be doing something right.”
“I think every footballer goes through that patch, and you have to come out the other side. You get tougher skinned, and if you're giving your all for the team, that's all that matters.”
On Marcelo Bielsa: "I can't thank him enough, he signed me and he stood by too. The belief he has given me, I can't be more thankful."
Leeds United under 23’s beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Thorpe Arch with Mateusz Bogutsz getting the only goal of the game. Four wins on the ‘spin’ for United’s under 23’s.
Leeds have been allocated 8,000 tickets for next month's FA Cup Third Round tie against Arsenal, they will go on sale from Wednesday(11th of December).
Pretty well happy with things at the moment, but it’s football and we all know that if you get too comfortable it can bite your derrière so tomorrow’s game with Hull City is very important. Last season we’d won seven in a row but they upset our ‘apple cart’ by grabbing all three points with a 2-0 at Elland Road.
I’m happy Kalvin Phillips is once again available after serving his one match ban, we missed the midfielder at the weekend and his inclusion will mean that Ben White will revert to the position he’s excelled at this season. Most likely Gaetano Berardi will partner the Brighton loanee in the middle of the defence.
I’m hoping that the Leeds can continue their unbeaten run with a win but like all games in the Championship it won’t be easy. Their star player Bowen is one to watch as the front man is ‘on fire’ so he will be one that both White and Berardi will have to keep a close eye on. Leeds 2-1.
Grant McCann(Hull City manager)on last season’s win at Elland Road and tomorrow’s game: “I saw the game when Jarrod got two and watched it during the week. It is not impossible to get a result.
“We will go there with belief that we can; not sitting back. We will go there to try and win the game as it is the only way we know how to play.
Ben White is staying ... until the end of the season! Graham Potter dispels any rumours that the talented centre back will return to Brighton and be sold in the January transfer window.
Leeds v Hull City
Team News: Kalvin Phillips returns into midfield allowing Ben White to return at centre back alongside Gaetano Berardi, Saturday’s goalscorer Gjanni Alioski drops to the bench. Hull City unchanged.
Team: Casilla, Ayling(c), White, Berardi, Dallas, Phillips, Klich, Costa, Hernandez, Harrison,
Ryan Ingham reviews the 2-0 win.
Patrick Bamford watches the OG go in for number one and Alioski celebrates the second.
Marcelo Bielsa: "Hull City were not the best team to come here this season at the beginning of the game, but in the end this has been a very important win for us. It was a game of two different halves. In the first half we were good, but we faced an opponent with a very attractive style of play.
"They have got players who really want to play the right way. We were superior than them in the second half, though. We balanced the game up in the second half. We couldn't stop Hull's chances, but we kept on the offensive. We risked the result in the second half, but once we had scored the second goal, we then managed the game very well."
Hull's Grant McCann: "I'm not interested in any hard luck stories after another defeat. We got zero points and that's that. I was pleased with the performance, but although we have been quite ruthless so far this season, we weren't tonight.
"You've got to have that bit of luck sometimes, and when you're in Leeds' position, you tend to get that. We pressed, we harried, but we didn't get that crucial goal. You could say we didn't get the rub of the green, but we also didn't get shots off at crucial times."
David Watkins: Seven wins and fourth clean sheet in a row and eleven points clear of Fulham in third place. Pretty good.
Thank you David. Hope the long journey didn’t spoil your night.
Bump it up. The Whites r going up!

Wigan 1-1 West Brom.
Leeds still top of the Championship by a goal difference of one.
Marcelo Bielsa and Jack Harrison have been nominated for EFL Championship Manager and Player of the Month of November.
What Marcelo said ... pre Cardiff City.
New training wear. Very nice.
Marcelo Bielsa named EFL Championship November Manager of the Month.
Five wins, three clean sheets, eleven goals scored and only two conceded.
Well done to Marcelo and his team.
Marcelo Bielsa on the election: 'To have a good democracy you have to do more than vote. We have our government, whether you voted them in or not and now they have no excuses. We can all hold them to account and demand better than we've been getting. We can all be kinder to each other too”. Wise words.
Neil Harris on if he expects a reaction to recent performances: “I expect that, that will be the message to the players. They’ve had a bit of criticism from within and externally. We knew it was going to be a real tough period. First four games, 10 points was a great return. Somewhere along the line there was going to be a dip.” He added that Leeds and West Brom look like the best teams in the division and that he has a number of injury/sickness worries for the game with the table toppers.
Last time we met
Leeds 1-4 Cardiff City
Leeds face Cardiff City at Elland Road looking for their first win over their Welsh rivals since 2015.
This is another game that Leeds will be short priced favourites but that means little when it comes to games in the Championship. Warnock has gone but an another old rival now sits in Warnock’s old chair.
Neil Harris has been a thorn in Leeds’ side before whilst as Millwall manager and East Londoner would enjoy to end United’s unbeaten run. He has injury doubts and sickness to contend with, but you can guarantee ex Leeds players Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier will be as ready as their manager to stop Leeds and put a dampener on Marcelo Bielsa triumphant November which earned the Argentinian the accolade of November Manager of the Month.
Bielsa’s squad will be boosted by the return, at least to the eighteen of Liam Cooper. Gaetano Berardi could still keep his place despite the return of the captain. Gjanni Alioski is once again pushing for a place in the starting line up, his two goals in his last two appearances have helped his cause.
Most people are expecting another win for Leeds, they could make it eight out of eight if they can once again get the opening goal. Leeds 2-0.
