Liam Cooper also selected by Scotland for their games with Cyprus and Kazakhstan and Mateusz Klich selected for Poland’s games with Israel and Slovenia.
Will it be long before Kalvin Phillips to be selected for England by Gareth Southgate? There surely isn’t a better English holding midfielder in either the Premier League or the Championship.
Jack Harrison named in the sky bet EFL team of the week.

Ben White on the recent praise for his displays since joining in the summer on loan from Brighton: “There is attention and praise and it’s really nice to see and hear it, but I know that I just have to keep focusing on making sure I’m the best I can be every time I step out onto the field.
“People keep saying how well I’m doing but I know I have to keep my head down and continue working hard for the team to make sure we get the results we need to achieve our aim at the end of the season.
“Playing alongside Liam (Cooper)has been great too, he’s been really good for me. His experience is really important for the side and he’s helped me to fit in with the team and will keep pushing me on to perform in the best way I can. We’ve kept our form strong and I’m delighted with how it’s gone so far, we’re doing really well.
“The hard work we put in during the week is showing in our results, as well as the things we did during pre-season before a ball was kicked. The manager’s attention to detail has been massive, I’ve said it before in interviews but it was different to what I was used to and I had to work hard before the season started - now it’s about doing what he wants from me on a consistent basis.”
Stuart Dallas has been named in Northern Ireland’s squad for their Euro2020 qualifiers against the Netherlands and Germany.
Leeds boxer Nicola Adams quits the sport in an open letter in the YEP. The Olympic double gold medal and WBO Championship belt winner is leaving the sport over fears that if she continues she could lose her sight. Nicola said: “I’m immensely honoured to have represented our country — to win double Olympic gold medals and then the WBO championship belt is a dream come true.
‘It has been an honour to compete on the global stage, and it has been a privilege to fight against such remarkable athletes. Whilst I am proud of my achievements, the unwavering belief from everyone in my corner, is something I will appreciate for the rest of my life.”

Andrea Radrizzani attended the Champions League game between Paris SG and Bruges on Wednesday night as a ‘guest’ of Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG's president who also runs Qatar Sports Investment.
French outlet L'Equipe ran a story earlier this week suggesting talks between the parties, over potential investment at Elland Road, were slow but ongoing. QSI interest in the Whites was first rumoured in the summer.
Third in the Championship versus sixteenth. Leeds just outside of the automatic promotion places by virtue of goal difference. Blackburn Rovers six points above the bottom three. One win out of their last six league fixture.
Eddie Nketiah likely to be out with a lower abdominal injury. Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and Gjanni Alioski also doubts for Saturday. Barry Douglas should be available for the game. United seeking fourth home win on the trot.
What Marcelo Bielsa said ... pre Blackburn Rovers:
Kalvin Phillips, Pablo Hernandez, Tyler Roberts, Kiko Casilla, Barry Douglas and other members of the Leeds United squad turn on the Christmas lights in Leeds city centre.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neil agrees to take charge of Stoke City. Appointment expected to be confirmed by the Irish Football Association within the next twenty four hours.

On this day twenty two years ago: Leeds were 3-0 down at home to Derby County but won the game 4-3 with Lee Bowyer scoring a last minute winner. Incredible game!
Also on this day in 2000: Dominic Matteo scored ‘THAT’ goal at the San Siro against AC Milan.
Tony Mowbray on the game with Leeds: “Leeds are top of the table, they’re a very high energy team, they’re determined. They have pressure on them at home and away, playing in front of 30,000 supporters at Elland Road.
"It’s always a difficult job, as we found out there last year, losing in the last few minutes. We know we can go there, compete and create chances ourselves, so let’s give it our best shot, be positive and see if we can cause them some problems. There’s nothing to fear. They’re a good, athletic team who are positive and do that exceptionally well. They’re well coached by Bielsa, who’s managed at World Cups.
“They have good players and a huge fanbase. Put that all together and you’ve got a chance, but we’ll throw punches back and see if we can give them a bloody nose."
Last time we met
Leeds 3-2 Blackburn Rovers 26/12/2018 (Championship)
Leeds face their second home game in seven days when Blackburn Rovers are the visitors to Elland Road on Saturday. United hope to continue their winning ways on home soil.
Blackburn travel over the Pennines with only one win in six, last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday their only win. Despite their position and recent result they will not be a ‘pushover’ and Leeds would do well to treat them as they would a team in the top six.
With Eddie Nketiah sidelined until after the international break Patrick Bamford will once again hope to break his un-scoring run against Rovers. Forshaw, Shackleton and Alioski are once again absent but Barry Douglas may return to the eighteen. He faces competition for the left back position from Leif Davis who impressed after coming on as a second half substitute against QPR.
Another full house is expected and if Leeds can get an early goal they should get at least another and claim an important three points to challenge Preston and WBA currently in the top two places of the league. Leeds 2-0.
Leeds United Football Club will pay its respects to fallen heroes from the armed forces at the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon (9th November) with a special tribute ahead of kick off.
The Whites' dedicated Remembrance fixture will see the two team captains laying wreathes in the centre of the pitch as they are joined by various military personnel and standard bearers.
Following an announcement, there will be a moment of silence and a bugler will then perform The Last Post as a mark of respect to all of the service men and women that have served our country.
Polish international midfielder Mateusz Klich committed his future to Leeds United by signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the club. Klich, who initially joined the Whites in the summer of 2017 from Dutch side FC Twente, was the first signing made by Leeds United director of football Victor Orta.
After making nine first team appearances during his first season for United, Klich returned to Holland in January 2018 for a loan stint with FC Utrecht, helping them to a fifth place finish in the Eredivisie.
After returning to Leeds United at the end of the campaign and following the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as head coach in June 2018, Mateusz has started every league game for the club under the Argentine.
Leeds v Blackburn Rovers
Team News: Leeds unchanged. Blackburn unchanged.
Team: Casilla, Ayling, White, Cooper(c), Dallas, Phillips, Klich, Costa, Harrison, Roberts, Bamford.
My review of the game
Patrick Bamford celebrates.
Marcelo Bielsa: "This is a player(Bamford)with a big character and a big personality. He took the responsibility(for the penalty), which isn't easy for him.
"At that moment (2-0) it was difficult to think the opponent could score. But after they scored, everything changed. After we scored twice, we had 10 or 12 chances but in the first and the second half we had a lot of spaces to attack. We didn't take advantage of that as much as we should."
Blackburn's Tony Mowbray: "It's always intense when you come to Elland Road. But the referee gives a penalty, which I've seen back a few times on the laptop and it's soft to say the least. It spoiled a little bit of the game for me. Is the standard of refereeing in the Championship dropping, or is it just me?
"It felt like that game was a bit much for him. In the context of the game it was a very soft penalty. Leeds didn't have hundreds of shots and when we got back to 2-1 there was a nervousness about them. We wanted to pray on that nervousness but it never materialised."
David Watkins on the return of ‘Bielsaball’ and his excellent review of the game with Blackburn Rovers.
Thank you David.
Big praise for Bamford, Harrison, Roberts and White on social media after yesterday’s victory. One defeat in seven is pretty good and as David Watkins said the results at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday are now seen more positively because of the home wins over QPR and Blackburn.
Losing 3-1 after 46 minutes, Leeds United Women staged an incredible second half comeback to defeat Stockport 5-3 with debutant Millie Kenyon scoring two.
Liverpool open up a nine point lead over Manchester City after beating last season’s PL Champions 3-1 at Anfield. Liverpool’s last home defeat was back in October 2017 when Crystal Palace beat them 2-1.
Heidi Haigh on the new White Rose Leeds United outlet, LUFC Trust Centenary event with Leeds legend Allan Clarke in attendance and her superb blog with her amazing photographs of the game with Blackburn Rovers.
Thank you Heidi. A reminder that her new book ‘Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United’ is out now.
manchester utd are the latest team to be linked with much talked about Leeds loanee Ben White. They are rumoured to be considering making a 30 million bid to his parent club in January. The team from Salford are also thought to be watching ‘The Yorkshire Pirlo’ Kalvin Phillips and weighing up to bid the same amount for his services.
Both Ben White and Patrick Bamford are named in the
Championship team of the week.
Liam Cooper will not be joining the Scottish squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 international. The Leeds skipper has the same injury that kept him sidelined a few weeks ago. He is hopefully expected to be fit for the games at Luton and Reading after the international break.
Ex Leeds miss-manager Neil(Colin)Warnock has left Cardiff City. He was in his last year of his contract and said he would not carry on after this season had ended. ‘Colin’ said: “I am leaving my beloved Bluebirds after over three years of which have been some of the best days in my long football career.
"It is a shared belief that this is the right time for a new voice as we believe this squad of players is more than capable of getting success.”
Leeds United announced that Leif Davis has today signed a new contract with the club. The left-back has agreed a new three-and-a-half year deal, committing his future at Elland Road until the summer of 2023.
Davis joined the club from Sky Bet League Two side Morecambe in the summer of 2018 after catching the eye in the Shrimps Academy. Following a series of impressive performances with Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s side, which ultimately led to the team becoming Professional Development League champions, Davis went on to make his first team debut in the memorable 3-2 away victory against Aston Villa in December 2018.
He follows Kalvin Phillips, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Mateusz Klich in agreeing to extend their stay at Elland Road.
I for one am very ‘chipper’ about the last few results, true we could be a couple of points and a few more goals better if we’d taken our chances, especially at Preston but eight points from four games isn’t bad at all.
One defeat in seven is also promotion form and if the lads can keep that up for the rest of the season there will be plenty to celebrate in the month of May.
Enjoy the break if that’s possible. Next up Luton Town away.
