Yesterday evening rumours surfaced that the GFH Capital takeover of Leeds United would be completed by the weekend.
The rumours began when BBC 5 Live’s Senior Football Reporter, Ian Dennis tweeted “I understand
Leeds United takeover worth 44m should be completed by the weekend with GFH Capital #lufc” Dennis was faced with hundreds of replies questioning him about this news, mainly asking how sure was he, Dennis replied to the majority of these, explaining he is very confident in the source that has told him such information.
There have been several rumours throughout the summer that have been started by ‘un-established’
journalists, however the fact that someone as established and reputable as Dennis, has given the rumour a lot more reliability.
There has been no comment from the club regarding the news, however ‘potential new owners’, GFH
Capital posted a statement via their twitter page last night explaining that they ‘plan to invest sufficiently after successful acquisition of the club’, the statement that followed was identical to one made a number of weeks ago, stating GFH’s aims and plans should the takeover be completed, however in the previous statement there was no mention of the ‘successful acquisition’. This statement was published after the comments had been made by Ian Dennis, so may well have been in response.
BBC Sport’s website has today published a story, explaining that the takeover will be completed
‘imminently’. Whilst this flurry of news is exciting, it is worth noting that similar stories have been published in the last few weeks which haven’t come true; however it could be quite a weekend for the Whites, especially helped with a win against Watford.
