Ahead of tonight’s clash with Hull City, we spoke with @althurstonsport about all things Tigers and the club associated with them.
How long have you supported Hull City?
I went to my first game around the age of ten, and ever since then I’ve been hooked for better or for worse. Feels like a lifetime since I started supporting them.
What’s your favourite moment as a Hull City fan?
By far when we were promoted to the Premier League on the last day, in 2013. The whole stadium we’re counting on Leeds United (out of anyone) to beat Watford. When the final whistle blew, everyone was on the pitch. I’ll never, ever forget that.
Player that you were proud to have on your shirt?
One player who I always had a soft spot for was Ahmed Elmohammady. For some reason, he was always my favourite player. It must’ve been the way he appreciated the fans and was so animated on the field. Ever since he danced emphatically in front of the sky sports camera in 2013, it’s been him.
What’s your most memorable match playing Leeds?
When City beat Leeds 2-0 in 2012. Nothing in particular that made this game stand out, apart from i distinctly remember the flair we were playing with on that day, and the home City fans were cheering after every pass. Good times.
Are you happy with your summer transfer dealings?
Realistically, no. I do not think we did enough to compete this year. However, Adkins managed to get a number of players in who will definitely make a difference, and without them, we’d almost certainly be relegated.
What’s your realistic aim for the season?
This may not sound too optimistic, but anything above last seasons finish for me is fine. It’s going to take a few years for us to get our ‘top’ Championship status back, so any advancement on last season would be a decent achievement for me.
Who is going to be promoted this season?
As much as I hate to say it, I feel like Leeds could be promoted, and they have a great chance of doing so under Bielsa. Could also see Brentford being a dark horse this season, and they’ve had a good start to the league so far this year so we shall see.
Can you name your three for relegation this year?
I think Rotherham, QPR and Birmingham. I couldn’t possibly say Hull, could I?
Who’s your danger man?
I think there’s a few, really. Jarrod Bowen on a good day will trouble any defence in the league, and hopefully new signing Chris Martin will cause a few problems in the league, should he be starting!
Rising stars in the ranks?
Tyler Hamilton. I’ve watched this lad a few times at U23 level, and he actually scored a belter when I was at the Kcom doing the U23s match report. Could definitely see him breaking into the first team properly in the next few years.
I think it’ll be tight, as it usually is against Leeds. I’m gonna say 1-1, with Bowen scoring for us, and Roofe scoring for Leeds!
