Ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Charlton, we spoke with Brad Hulyer.
How long have you followed Charlton Athletic and why did you choose them as your team?
All my life without knowing really, when I was really young all my friends were Arsenal fans but I my family have connections with Charlton from the early 80’s so it was drummed into me quite quickly to be a Charlton fan.
What’s your favourite moment as a fan? Season, game or anything other occasion or mention any other football related event you’ve witnessed.
Well it has to be both the Playoff finals against Sunderland that Charlton won as a top moment.
Others games of course would be the premiership days...3-3 with Man Utd, 4-2 win v Chelsea stick out for sure.
Tell us about a player that you were proud to have on the back of a shirt, if you didn’t is there one you wished you would have?
Without question Clive Mendonca, he came in to the club a bit unknown then smashed in 28 goals including that famous hat-trick at Wembley ‘98
What’s your most memorable match playing against Leeds United and your thoughts on Lee Bowyer and his management of Charlton.
Versus Leeds it unfortunately is the bashing you gave us at the valley 6-1 defeat and Mark Viduka scoring after 12 seconds 😫
Lee Bowyer is still in early stages, however so far he hasn’t done much wrong to complain about. He has passion and desire in him and he isn’t afraid to show it. Nor is he afraid to take risks!
Are you happy with your dealings in this summer transfer windows so far? Is there any player you’d love to bring into your starting eleven? (Messi and Ronaldo cannot be considered!) and who you think is the best signing a Championship club has made.
It was a slow start but a very steady flow in the end of players arriving to this summer 14+ players... will take time to gel but I think they will do us well this season. Signing wise that stand out - Connor Gallagher from Chelsea to us was a good one.
The best signing / loan is that Leeds got from Arsenal of Eddie Nketiah
What’s your hopes for this season? Top ten or do you think you can make the top six with the squad you have
To survive first and foremost, the start we had was amazing and changed a few peoples minds. If we can have a few more runs like that then mid table hopefully, but why not go for it and surprise the league with a top six finish!
Who are your three for the drop?
Luton, Huddersfield, Millwall
Who are the teams you consider will be in the top six of the Championship in May? Please name you top six in any order.
Leeds, Derby, Swansea, West Brom, Middlesbrough, and why not aye Charlton!
Who’s your danger man?
Don’t want to give it away as there’s a few 😉
Can you tell us about a rising star in the youth ranks?
George Lapslie and Albie Morgan are ones that will progress and impress
Prediction and scorers for the game?
I think it’s a win for us 1-0 Charlton with Darren Pratley to score or if I have to think of us not getting all 3 points, it’s a 2-2 draw with your Eddie(Nkeitah) and our Tomer Hemed at least getting a goal each.
Go on the Charlton!
We’d like to thank Brad for taking the time to answer our questions and wish him the best of luck for the season ahead.
