Ahead of today’s clash with Boro, we spoke to Steve, a Boro fan who has supported the ups and downs for the last 56 years.
How long have you been a Boro fan and why?
I have supported the Boro for as long as I have followed football, probably about 56 years.
Why the Boro, not a choice really, I was born in Middlesbrough and lived here all my life, I can’t go with not supporting your local team, for all the pain and frustration it may cause you have to support your local team, and what joy when they win.
What has been your favourite moment following Boro?
Favourite moment has to be the come back win against Steaua Bucharest.
Tell us about a player you was proud to have on the back of your shirt. If you’d didn’t, tell us about one you wish you would have had.
In the premier era Juninho has to be the player most fans would choose, but going back to when I might have had a shirt with a name on it, I would say John Hickton.
What’s your most memorable match against Leeds?
In recent times the 3 nil win in 2015 was a good one.
Are you happy with your dealings in this years transfer windows?
not totally happy, we lack pace and flair in the final third.
What’s your realistic aim for the season?
Realistic aim for this season: top six is a must, with an outside chance of the top two, but we have to start scoring more at home to do that.
What’s your opinion on spygate?
Quite funny really, biggest crime was getting caught.
Who do you think will clinch promotion?
Depends on if Leeds and Sheff Utd drop off as usual, but to be fair I would say Leeds and Norwich both have a very good chance, with Boro to go up in 3rd although West Brom have played well.If Leeds fall away then Boro will chase.
Who are your three for relegation this year?
Relegation this year, I would say Bolton and Ipswich along with Rotherham
Who’s your danger-man?
Boro’s dangerman I would say is Britt Assombolonga, but have to give Lewis Wing a mention.
Can you name an up and coming star in your youth ranks?
Stephen Walker is a young striker with a good eye for goal, a lot of promise.
Prediction and scorers for today’s match?
I will go for a Boro 1 nil win with Britt the scorer.
We’d like to thank Steve and wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
