Last night Leeds United did something that the club has failed to do for so many years; inspired hope.
The club confirmed the signing of fan favourite Pontus Jansson. Why is he a favourite? Because he just gets it! He understands what it means to be Leeds.
Jansson is set to sign a 3-year deal in the summer for a suspected £3.5mil fee having starred in the Leeds defence for the first half of the season.
To me it's more than just a signing, Jansson resembles something that Leeds just haven't had enough of over the years; true grit and passion.
When he steps on to that pitch you know that Leeds' defence will not leave anything behind after 90 minutes have been played. He has a genuine admiration for the fans that has been duly reciprocated by the Elland Road locals.
I genuinely think that Jansson has been integral to this seasons success. It's not an individual effort I know, but his spirit and tenacity seems to have infected the squad. It truly is a joy to watch.
Jansson's staying is just one of the players that I would like to see continue on at Elland Road along with his partner in crime Kyle Bartley and possibly Hadi Sacko.
Bartley would be a very tough deal due to Swansea's current situation but this summer he will only have 12 months left on his current deal and if Leeds take the transfer seriously there's a big chance we could see the towering defender keep this glorious partnership alive.
Here's to you Pontus Jansson, you've been an exceptional signing, a beloved player and I can't wait to see you become a legend at Elland Road.
