With the window only a matter of days away from slamming shut it still begs the question ‘Who’s getting the goals to get Leeds promoted.’ It’s a very interesting question and one that needs addressing.
Patrick Bamford has taken a large amount ‘dogs abuse’ after missing a good chance in the first half of the game with QPR and followed that feu pas with a penalty miss in the second half.
This comes after a poor run of games without a goal, his last goal was in the 1-1 draw with WBA back on New Years Day.
Another one that went begging. Patrick Bamford fails from the penalty spot.
It cannot be expected for the striker to ‘carry the can’ for the multitude of chances Leeds miss in most games, Jack Harrison, Helder Costa and Ejanni Alioski to name three have all being guilty of missing chances in recent games.
It beggars belief that the second top goalscorer at Leeds is ... OWN GOALS! That is the biggest problem and it is time for all departments in the team to weigh in with some goals to take a little pressure of Paddy B.
A look at the statistics makes uncomfortable reading with the last eighteen games to play. These are the players, other than Bamford(10)who have scored this season for Leeds in no particular order;
Jack Harrison 5
Helder Costa 3
Ejanni Alioski 4
Pablo Hernandez 3
Mateusz Klich 3
Stuart Dallas 3
Kalvin Phillips 1
Luke Ayling 1
Tyler Roberts 1
Eddie Nketiah 3
Own goals 6
The fact that Leeds are committed to a fifteen million pound deal for Costa also raises up that you’d expect a few more from him and to be honest a lot better from him, performance wise from our biggest transfer outlay since Patrick Bamford was signed from Middlesborough.
Helder Costa. Hot or Not?
He so far hasn’t set the Championship alight and has been a major disappointment if you ask the majority of Leeds fans. A much better second half please Mr Costa!
When you look no goals from the central defenders Ben White and Liam Cooper, Adam Forshaw(I know he rarely scores!)has been absent since the Charlton and the serious absence of goals has put enormous pressure on Bamford to get the goals. That my friends and fellow fans has to change and change quick.
We’ve had more corners than most teams but, I think I’m correct in saying have scored three goals from these set-pieces and that is abysmal for a team hoping to be promoted at the end of the season.
The rumoured signing of Ian Poveda will hopefully add something different to the ‘party’ and we are still to see much of Tyler Roberts who, apart from a couple of games has been out injured. The striker / midfielder had some good games last season and weighed in with a few important goals.
Is Ian Poveda going to add some game changing ability?
Hopefully, the this far elusive striker Leeds have been searching for will also join before the 1st of February, failure in this area to recruit is unfathomable and just has happen or the consequences could be fatal to our quest of a place in the Premiership.
What is definitely certain, Leeds have to increase their output of goals now that the defence has started to concede every game. The days of clean sheets pre December is now a distant memory and the last time we did it was against Hull City on the 10th of that month.
Time to get those shooting boots on lads!
